As Europe celebrates #EuropeDay, it is an opportune moment to reflect on the journey of the continent and the influential figures who have contributed to shaping modern Europe. The Schuman Declaration of 1950 marked a pivotal point, laying down the foundation for what is now known as the European Union. This declaration symbolized a transition from war to peace, from destruction to unity.
While initial steps towards European integration were predominantly led by men, women have increasingly played crucial roles in molding today’s European Union. Their contributions span across various fields such as science, creativity, innovation, and intellectual property.
A few years ago, in recognition of these contributions, the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) named several meeting rooms after 17 outstanding European women. These women were selected by EUIPO staff from a diverse list of remarkable individuals who have made significant impacts in areas like science, politics, arts, sports, education and human rights.
